Prolonging the Inevitable
Sometimes your workload may seem so overwhelming that you just can’t seem to muster the energy to tackle the task. It is easier to push it into the abyss of tomorrow and relax, not having to think about it. But pushing it onto the next day doesn’t make it go away. It only prolongs the inevitable. The dirty dishes will still need to be washed, the lawn still needs to be mowed, and the report that is due at work still needs to be written. Procrastination will not only keep you from accomplishing your tasks, but it will also prevent you from experiencing the deep sense of satisfaction that comes from a job well done. You’ll be in a constant state of “dread” knowing that what you don’t do today... has to be done tomorrow. Putting something off does not make it go away; it only allows more time to torment you. The Bible says in Proverbs 3:27-28, “Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act. Do not say to your neighbor, ‘Come back tomorrow and I’ll give it to you’—when you already have it with you.” In other words, don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today! Pray for strength and courage to grab the bull by the horns and go forward with God’s strength. Remember that courage is not the lack of fear, but the ability to face it. Text: John 9:4, Ecclesiastes 11:4, Proverbs 16:3, 2 Chronicles 15:7
