Something Happened to Me
On Wednesday, I had a personal experience that taught me something serious about spiritual warfare. Satan almost trapped me through the very message I had prepared to preach—a message about weakness in serving God.
As it was getting close to time for service, I suddenly began to feel weak in my body. At the same time, thoughts started coming into my mind: “The distance is too far… your car is not in good condition… Brother Thomas is there, he will manage…” and many more excuses. For a moment, I almost believed those thoughts.
But then I became alert. I realized that the enemy often begins his attack in the mind before it affects the body and actions. At that point, I knew this was not ordinary—it was a spiritual attack meant to weaken my commitment and possibly affect my love and dedication to God.
Immediately, I made a decision. I rose up and prepared myself for service. I declared within me: No amount of discouragement will stop me from going to the house of God. And I went.
The Bible says in Hebrews 12:1, “Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.” Sometimes, that “weight” is not sin—it is discouragement, laziness, or mental resistance.
Also, 2 Corinthians 10:5 reminds us to “cast down imaginations… and bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.” Not every thought you hear in your mind is from you—some are battles you must fight and win.
If you are experiencing similar struggles, understand this: you don’t always need special prayers for everything. Sometimes, what is required is a firm decision and intentional action. Rise up, reject every excuse, and do what you know is right.
Do not allow weakness or discouragement to keep you from serving God. Prove your love for Jesus through your consistency and commitment today.
