A. S. Worrell, translator of the New Testament, visited Azusa and declared that
the work there had "rediscovered the blood of Christ for the Church at that time."
Great emphasis was placed on the blood of Christ, and a high standard for "a clean life" was
raised from the very beginning.
When presumptuous men would try to use the meetings for their own platform, strange
things would happen to them.
Some would lose their breath so that they could not speak. Others would forget what they
wanted to say and sit down.
Some even seemed temporarily blinded. According to Bartleman, no one got away with
presumption in the early meetings.
Just as it was written of the first-century church, it was often said of the revival at
Azusa that the people experienced continual awe and wonder at the great things that God
was doing. Every day was set on fire by the acts of God.
