Sermon: “When You Seek Me With All Your Heart”

Author: Will Helton

There is a difference between looking for God… and truly seeking Him.

Many people look for God when life gets hard.

When the desert stretches long… when answers don’t come… when the silence feels louder than His voice.

But Scripture doesn’t say, “You will find Me when you casually look for Me.”

It says, “You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.”

1. The Desert — Seeking in Dryness

Picture that man walking alone across the desert at dawn.

The ground is dry.

The air is still.

Nothing around him suggests life.

Yet he keeps walking.

This is where many people stop.

Because seeking God in the desert feels like nothing is happening.

But hear this:

The desert is not where God is absent… it’s where God is drawing out your pursuit.

God is not always found in comfort.

Sometimes He is found in the hunger that refuses to give up.

2. The Hidden Room — Seeking in Surrender

Now the man is no longer walking—he’s kneeling.

Alone.

No crowd.

No recognition.

Just a quiet room… and a beam of light.

This is where seeking becomes real.

Because God is not impressed by public displays—

He is moved by private surrender.

When no one is watching…

When there’s no reward…

When it’s just you and Him…

That’s where the heart is tested.

And that’s where God begins to meet you.

3. The Forest Path — Choosing God Fully

Then comes the moment of decision.

Two paths.

One wide. One narrow.

One easy. One intentional.

And the man places his hand over his heart… and chooses.

This is where many people hesitate.

Because seeking God with your whole heart means letting go of what competes for it.

It means:

• Letting go of distractions

• Letting go of comfort

• Letting go of divided priorities

You cannot seek God fully while holding onto everything else halfway.

The narrow path isn’t popular—but it leads somewhere the wide path never can.

4. The Mountain — Pouring Out Everything

Now he stands on the mountain.

Arms raised.

No more hesitation.

No more holding back.

This is surrender in its purest form.

Not partial.

Not conditional.

Not “God, I’ll give You this but keep that.”

No—this is everything.

And this is where something shifts.

Because when you finally give God your whole heart…

you stop negotiating…

you stop controlling…

you stop striving…

And you simply say:

“God, I’m Yours.”

5. The Field — The Encounter

And then… the moment comes.

The light doesn’t just shine near him—

it surrounds him.

What was once distant… is now present.

What was once longed for… is now felt.

His expression changes.

From searching…

to peace.

From striving…

to rest.

From hoping…

to knowing.

This is the promise of Jeremiah 29:13 fulfilled.

Not that God was hiding…

But that He was waiting for a heart fully turned toward Him.

Closing Truth

God is not playing hide and seek with your life.

He is not distant.

He is not unwilling.

But He responds to a heart that is fully His.

Not halfway.

Not occasionally.

Not when it’s convenient.

But completely.

And when that happens…

You will find Him.

Prayer

Father,

Thank You that You are not far from us.

Thank You that You promise to be found when we seek You with all our heart.

Lord, search our hearts today.

Show us where we’ve been divided… distracted… or holding back.

In the dry places, give us perseverance to keep seeking.

In the quiet places, teach us to truly surrender.

At the crossroads, give us courage to choose You fully.

On the mountain, help us release everything into Your hands.

And God…

bring us into that place of encounter.

Where striving ends…

where peace settles…

where Your presence becomes real to us.

Let our hearts not just look for You—

but seek You with everything we are.

And when we find You, Lord…

let us never turn back.

We give You our whole heart.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.
