LET'S TALK ABOUT IT.
Why should we surrender everything?
How bad do you want heaven? Do you really want to be like Jesus, be His disciple?
Over and over in the Bible we are told to give everything to obtain the object of our hearts desire. We cannot be half His and half the worlds. We are to sell everything to buy the field with treasure, the Pearl of Great Price, eternal life. We are to offer ourselves (everything we are and everything we own, including relationships) on the altar of sacrifice, Rom 12:1. We are to crucify the flesh, Gal 5:24, and then Christ will live out His life, doing His will and His good pleasure IN us, Gal 2:20, Phil 2:13.
We are also to count the cost. If not, we will shrink back when persecution comes. We are to take up our cross: Matt 10:38, 16:24, Mark 8:34, 10:21, Luke 9:23, 14:27 and 33.
But what are we giving up? only the things that are not best for our development to become what God created us to be. We give all to God for Him to purify and give back all we need to serve Him.
I had doubts when I gave everything to God but soon found that God replaced everything He took with something much greater. By loving God, putting Him first, I had more love for my wife and children, my friends and a new vigor in my work. Yes, I lost friends. But I found out soon that they only wanted to be my friends if I gave to them, acted like them, did like them. And God replaced them with friends that loved in the good and the bad times. Friends that loved God, wanted to know Him more and encouraged Christian growth.
So, give God all your worldly attachments holding nothing back and watch Him bless you with attachments that lift you up, encourage you and strengthen you in your faith and Christian walk. If you truly want to follow Jesus, then do it. Follow Him and give Him everything.
Many are inquiring, “How am I to make the surrender of myself to God?” You desire to give yourself to Him, but you are weak in moral power, in slavery to doubt, and controlled by the habits of your life of sin. Your promises and resolutions are like ropes of sand. You cannot control your thoughts, your impulses, your affections. The knowledge of your broken promises and forfeited pledges weakens your confidence in your own sincerity and causes you to feel that God cannot accept you; but you need not despair. What you need to understand is the true force of the will. This is the governing power in the nature of man, the power of decision, or of choice. Everything depends on the right action of the will. The power of choice God has given to men; it is theirs to exercise. You cannot change your heart, you cannot of yourself give to God its affections; but you can choose to serve Him. You can give Him your will; He will then work in you to will and to do according to His good pleasure. Thus your whole nature will be brought under the control of the Spirit of Christ; your affections will be centered upon Him, your thoughts will be in harmony with Him. And He will work IN you to make you into all He created you to be.
