Step Four
Lamentations 3:37-45 Who is he who speaks and it comes to pass, when the Lord has not commanded it?
Is it not from the mouth of the Most High That woe and well-being proceed?
Why should a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins?
Let us search out and examine our ways, And turn back to the LORD;
Let us lift our hearts and hands To God in heaven.
We have transgressed and rebelled; You have not pardoned.
You have covered Yourself with anger And pursued us; You have slain and not pitied.
You have covered Yourself with a cloud, That prayer should not pass through.
You have made us an offering and refuse In the midst of the peoples.
Lamentations 3:55-57 I called on Your name, O LORD, From the lowest pit.
You have heard my voice; "Do not hide Your ear From my sighing, from my cry for help."
You drew near on the day I called on You, And said, "Do not fear!"
Job 1:6-22 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them.
And the Lord said to Satan, “From where do you come?” So Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.”
Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?”
So Satan answered the Lord and said, “Does Job fear God for nothing?
“Have You not made a hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land.
“But now, stretch out Your hand and touch all that he has, and he will surely curse You to Your face!”
And the Lord said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your power; only do not lay a hand on his person.” So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord.
Now there was a day when his sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house;
and a messenger came to Job and said, “The oxen were plowing and the donkeys feeding beside them,
“When the Sabeans raided them and took them away– indeed they have killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you!”
While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The fire of God fell from heaven, and burned up the sheep and the servants, and consumed them; And I alone have escaped to tell you!”
While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The Chaldeans forms three bands, raided the camels and took them away, yes, and killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you!”
While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house.
“and suddenly a great wind came from across the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young people, and they are dead; and I alone have escaped to tell you!”
Then Job arose, tore his robe, and shaved his head; and he fell to the ground and worshiped.
And he said;
“Naked I came from my mother’s womb, And naked shall I return there. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; Blessed be the name of the Lord.”
In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong.
Job 2:5-10 “But stretch out Your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will surely curse You to Your face!'
And the Lord said to Satan, “Behold, he is in your hand, but spare his life.”
So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord, and struck Job with painful boils
From the sole of his foot to the crown of his head.
And he took for himself a potsherd with which to scrape himself while he sat in the midst of the ashes.
Then his wife said to him, “Do you still hold fast to your integrity? Curse God and die!”
But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God, and shall we not accept adversity?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips.
Micah 7:8-10 Do not rejoice over me, my enemy; When I fall, I will arise; When I sit in darkness, The LORD will be a light to me.
I will bear the indignation of the LORD, Because I have sinned against Him, Until He pleads my case And executes justice for me. He will bring me forth to the light; I will see His righteousness.
Then she who is my enemy will see, And shame will cover her who said to me, "Where is the LORD your God?" My eyes will see her; Now she will be trampled down Like mud in the streets.
Psalm 86:1-7 BOW down Your ear, O LORD, hear me; For I am poor and needy.
Preserve my life, for I am holy; You are my God; Save Your servant who trusts in You!
Be merciful to me, O Lord, For I cry to you all day long.
Rejoice the soul of Your servant, For to you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, And abundant in mercy to all those who call upon You.
Give ear, O LORD, to my prayer; and attend to the voice of my supplications.
In the day of my trouble I will call upon You, For You will answer me.
Psalm 3:1-8 LORD, How they have increased who trouble me! Many are they who rise up against me.
Many are they who say of me, "There is no help for him in God."
But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, My glory and the One who lifts up my head.
I cried to the Lord with my voice, And He heard me from His holy hill. Selah
I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the Lord sustained me.
I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people Who have set themselves against me all around.
Arise, O Lord; Save Me, O my God! For You have struck all my enemies on the cheekbone; You have broken the teeth of the ungodly,
Salvation belongs to the Lord. Your blessing is upon Your people. Selah
