Let Go.

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Romans 12:2

There was a time in my life that Christ was an afterthought. I never turned to Him when I felt pain, anger, unaccepted, misunderstood, depressed, or lonely. Instead, I turned to the things of this world to bring happiness into my life. I turned to all the pleasures this world had to offer to stimulate my mind and body, I was hoping to drown out my feelings of inadequacy. I bombarded those negative thoughts and feelings with the indulgences of this world to the point that I became numb to the real issues. This was my defense mechanism, even if it only worked for short periods of time, becoming the model I lived by for the majority of my life.

Rather than looking up to my Creator, whom I knew little about, I turned to the carnal desires of the world. And why not? These were the things everyone around me was doing, and they seemed happy. I would watch TV and see the commercials rallying behind the idea of making myself happy. Nike said, “Just Do It,” Burger King said, “Have It Your Way,” and L’Oréal said, “Because You’re Worth It.”

As time passed, it seemed to be an endless cycle of searching for ways to bring happiness into my life. But the day came when, after decades of doing it my way, I decided to do things God’s way. It was difficult at first. I held tightly onto my way because it’s all I ever knew. And throughout this time, a dark cloud was always hovering over me. I had to give up and surrender myself to the will of my Creator, who I couldn’t see.

And this was not an easy task for me. But when I let go of my pride and allowed my Savior, Jesus Christ, who had always been calling me to enter into a personal relationship with Him, my mind was changed forever. I no longer did my will; I no longer searched for the things of this world, and I no longer had that cloud over my head.

A light entered my life that completely altered everything I had previously thought to be true and good. I was overcome with an unspeakable joy that can’t be described but only experienced. The Lord has changed my mind and is guiding every step. I have cast my insecurities, my anger, and my doubts to the One who gave His life for me.

Have you been searching for peace and joy? Have you been looking for something to fill that hole in your heart? What are you holding onto that is preventing you from letting go?

One thing is for certain. Jesus is calling you. He’s waiting for you to let go of this world so that He can take you by the hand and lead you to a place that is filled with joy that only He can provide.
