Sermon: “Eyes Fixed, Heart Steady”

Author: Will Helton

Hebrews 12:2 fixing our eyes on Jesus… who endured the cross… and sat down at the right hand of God

There is a path every believer must walk.

It is not always smooth.

It is not always easy.

Sometimes it feels like a steep, dusty road where every step takes more strength than the last.

Yet ahead of us—always ahead—is the cross.

Not just a symbol of suffering…

but a symbol of purpose, redemption, and victory.

The writer of Hebrews tells us to fix our eyes on Jesus. Not glance. Not occasionally look. But fix—lock in—set our focus fully on Him.

Because life will try to pull your attention everywhere else.

The crowd will shout.

Shame will try to define you.

Pain will try to stop you.

But Jesus shows us something powerful:

Even while carrying the cross…

Even while surrounded by mockery…

Even while feeling the full weight of suffering…

He saw joy on the other side.

That’s what kept Him moving forward.

And that’s what will carry you too.

You may feel like you’re in the middle of the race—tired, worn down, maybe even stumbling. But you’re not running aimlessly. You’re running toward something eternal.

And you’re not running alone.

Some will fall—but others will help them up.

Some will slow down—but they will not quit.

Because the goal is not perfection…

The goal is faithfulness.

And at the end of it all—beyond the struggle, beyond the weight, beyond the voices—you will find what Jesus already secured:

Victory.

Peace.

And a place in His presence.

So keep going.

Fix your eyes.

Steady your heart.

And run your race.

Prayer

Lord Jesus,

Thank You for showing us what it means to endure.

When the road feels long and heavy, remind us to fix our eyes on You—not on our fear, not on our pain, not on the voices around us—but on You alone.

Give us strength when we feel weak.

Give us peace when we feel overwhelmed.

Give us perseverance when we feel like stopping.

Help us to remember that there is joy beyond the struggle…

purpose within the pain…

and victory already written in Your name.

Teach us to lift one another up when we stumble.

To walk with compassion.

To run with faith.

And when we lose sight of the path, gently turn our hearts back toward Your light.

We trust You.

We follow You.

And we fix our eyes on You.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.
