Sermon: Peace in the Middle of the Storm

Author:я┐╝ Will Helton

John 16:33

тАЬIn this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.тАЭ

Jesus never promised a life without storms. He didnтАЩt say the waves wouldnтАЩt rise, or that the sky wouldnтАЩt darken. Instead, He gave us something deeperтАФpeace that exists in the middle of it all.

Think about the image of the boat in the storm. The wind is real. The fear is real. The uncertainty is real. Yet in the center stands ChristтАФcalm, steady, unshaken. The storm did not disappear immediately, but peace was already present because He was there.

ThatтАЩs the truth for us.

We walk through deserts where we feel exhausted. We stand under skies heavy with clouds. We face moments where life feels chaotic, unclear, even overwhelming. But the promise of Jesus is not that we escape these momentsтАФitтАЩs that we are not alone in them.

When the light breaks through the cloudsтАж

When the traveler sees the cross in the distanceтАж

When hands are lifted even while the rain still fallsтАж

That is faith.

Faith is not pretending the storm isnтАЩt there.

Faith is lifting your hands anyway.

Faith is choosing to trust that even now, even hereтАФHe has already overcome.

The victory of Christ is not just something in the future. It is a present reality that we step into. His peace is not fragileтАФitтАЩs stronger than the storm.

So whatever youтАЩre facing todayтАФfear, uncertainty, wearinessтАФhear His words again:

тАЬTake heart.тАЭ

Not because life is easyтАж
But because He has already won.

Prayer

Lord Jesus,

In a world that feels heavy at times, where storms rise and uncertainty surrounds us, we come before You with open hands.

Thank You for Your promiseтАФthat even in trouble, we are not abandoned.

Thank You that Your peace is not dependent on our circumstances, but anchored in who You are.

When we feel overwhelmed, remind us that You are standing in the center of our storm.

When we grow weary on the journey, help us see the light of the cross ahead of us.

When fear tries to take hold, teach us to lift our hands in trust and surrender.

Fill our hearts with a deep, unshakable peaceтАФthe kind that quiets our thoughts, steadies our souls, and reminds us that You have already overcome the world.

We place our burdens in Your hands today.
We choose faith over fear.
We choose trust over doubt.
And we rest in Your victory.

In Your name, Jesus,

Amen.
