Step 10

1 Corinthians 10:6-12 RSV Now these things are warnings for us, not to desire evil as they did.

Do not be idolaters as some of them were; as it is written, "The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to dance."

We must not indulge in immorality as some of them did, and twenty-three thousand fell in a single day.

We must not put the Lord to the test, as some of them did and were destroyed by serpents;

nor grumble, as some of them did and were destroyed by the Destroyer.

Now these things happened to them as a warning, but they were written down for our instruction, upon whom the end of the ages has come.

Therefore let any one who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.

Numbers 11:4-9 Now the rabble that was among them had a strong craving; and the people of Israel also wept again, and said, "O that we had meat to eat!

We remember the fish we ate in Egypt for nothing, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic;

but now our strength is dried up, and there is nothing at all but this manna to look at."

Now the manna was like coriander seed, and its appearance like that of bdellium.

The people went about and gathered it, and ground it in mills or beat it in mortars, and boiled it in pots, and made cakes of it; and the taste of it is like the taste of cakes baked with oil.

When the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna feel with it.

Numbers 11:31-35 And there went forth a wind from the LORD, and it brought quails from the sea, and let them fall beside the camp, about a day's journey on this side and a days' journey on the other side, round about the camp, and about two cubits above the face of the earth.

And the people rose all that day, and all night, and all the next day, and gathered the quails; he who gathered least gathered ten homers; and they spread them out for themselves all around the camp.

While the meat was yet between their teeth, before it was consumed, the anger of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD smote the people with a very great plague.

Therefore the name of that place was called Kib'roth-hat-ta'a-vah because there they buried the people who had the craving.

From Kib'roth-hat-ta'a-vah the people journeyed to Ha-ze'roth; and they remained at Hazeroth.

Exodus 32:6 And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt offerings offerings and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.

Revelation 2:12-15 "And to the angel of the Church in Per ga-mum write; The words of him who has the sharp two-edged sword.

"'I know where you dwell, where Satan's throne us; you hold fast my name and you did not deny my faith even in the days of An' ti-pas my witness, my faithful one, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells.

But I have a few things against you, you have some there who hold the teaching of Ba'laam, who taught Ba'lak to put a stumbling block before the sons of Israel, that they might eat food sacrificed to idols, and practice immorality.

So you also have some who hold the teaching of the Nic o-la'i-tans

Exodus 17:1-7 All the congregation of the people of Israel moved on from the wilderness of Sin by stages, according to the commandment of the LORD, and camped at Reph'i-dim; but there was no water for the people to drink.

Therefore the people found fault with Moses, and said, "Give us water to drink." And Moses said to them, "Why do you find fault with me? Why do you put the LORD to the proof?"

But the people thirsted there for water, and the people murmured against Moses, and said, "Why did you bring us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst?"

So Moses cried to the LORD, "What shall I do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me."

And the LORD said to Moses, "Pass on before the people, taking with you some of the elders of Israel; and take in your hand the rod with which you struck the Nile, and go.

Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock at Ho'reb; and you shall strike the rock, and water shall come out of it, that the people may drink." And Moses did so, in the sight of the elders of Israel.

And he called the name of the place Mas'-sah and Mer'-i-bah, because to the fault-finding of the children of Israel, and because they put the LORD to the proof by saying, "Is the LORD among us or not?"

Exodus 16:1-3 They set out from E'lim, and all the congregation of the people of Israel came to the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after they had departed from the land of Egypt.

And the whole congregation of the people of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness,

and said to them, "Would that we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the fleshpots and ate bread to be full; for you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger."

Romans 15:1-6 We are strong ought to bear with the failing of the weak, and not to please ourselves;

let each of us please his neighbor for his good, to edify him.

For Christ did not please himself; but as it is written, "The reproaches of those who who reproached thee fell on me."

For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that by steadfastness and by the encouragement of the scriptures we might have hope.

May the God of steadfastness and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus,

that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
