Good morning

Zechariah 5 is a powerful and sobering chapter. It reminds us that God is not only a God of grace and restoration but also a God of truth, justice, and holiness.

1. The Flying Scroll – God’s Word Exposes Sin

“I see a flying scroll… This is the curse that is going out over the whole land…” (Zechariah 5:1-3)

The scroll represents God’s Word going forth across the earth, exposing sin specifically theft and falsehood.

This shows us:
* Nothing is hidden from God
* Sin is not ignored
* God’s Word brings conviction

“It will enter the house… and destroy it completely.” (v4)

This is serious, sin doesn’t just affect moments, it affects lives, homes, and generations.

But here’s the heart of God: He reveals sin not to destroy us, but to call us to repentance.

2. The Woman in the Basket – God Removes Wickedness

“This is Wickedness… and he pushed her back into the basket…” (Zechariah 5:7-8)

In this vision, wickedness is personified and removed from the land.

Two women carry the basket away to Babylon, symbolizing that God is taking sin away from His people.

This reveals:

* God doesn’t just expose sin, He removes it
* God desires a pure and holy people
* Sin cannot remain where God’s presence dwells

This is powerful: God is not satisfied with us staying bound, He wants us free, clean, and set apart.

What does this mean for us today?

Live in honesty before God
Don’t hide sin, bring it into the light. God already sees it, and He lovingly calls you to freedom.
Take sin seriously
Grace is not a license to continue in sin. God is holy, and He calls us to holiness.
Receive God’s cleansing
Through Jesus, we are not just forgiven, we are cleansed and made new.

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us… and purify us…” (1 John 1:9)

Final Encouragement

God sees everything, but He is not looking to condemn you.
He is working to clean, restore, and prepare you.

Let Him search your heart today.
Let Him remove anything that doesn’t belong.
Let Him make you whole.

Create in me a clean heart, O God…” (Psalm 51:10)

Prayer:
Lord, search our hearts today. Reveal anything in us that is not pleasing to You. Give us the courage to repent and the grace to change. Remove every form of wickedness from our lives, and make us pure before You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
