Guilt Is a Blessing
When you have a clear conscience, it gives you tremendous peace and contentment; your heart is joyful, and your mind is in open communion with God. But when your conscience is bothering you, it’s difficult to concentrate, go about the simplest of daily tasks, or sleep peacefully at night. But did you know that a guilty conscience is actually a blessing and a gift from God? Guilt is a divine tool to convict, correct, and perfect your character when you have wandered astray. Guilt is a warning that something has come into your life that shouldn’t be there, and it is standing between you and your relationship with God. The Holy Spirit gently whispers to you to make things right, to repent, and receive forgiveness. If your conscience never troubled you, there would be no motivation to change, and you would drift further and further away from God. However, don’t confuse a guilty conscience and “feeling bad.” For instance, if you find out a friend is unloyal and is trying to bring you down, that friend is toxic, and as painful as it may be, must be removed from your life. Although you “feel bad” about it, you’re at peace knowing that you made the right decision. Feeling guilty and feeling bad are two completely different things. Pray for a clear conscience and discernment to know the difference. Listen to the pleadings of the Holy Spirit leading and guiding you in the right way, and be thankful for those guilty feelings, because they truly are a blessing from God. Text: 1 John 1:9, Hebrews 10:22, Romans 2:15, Acts 23:1
