The Price of Love.

When someone you love dies, there is a deep aching in your heart that never really goes away. The deeper the love, the greater the pain. It’s a sadness so devastating that it can only be understood by someone who has actually experienced this loss themselves. It is like no other pain. For some, the agony and torment is so great that they retreat into a cloud of pitch black darkness, unable to bear the truth that their loved one is gone and they will never again hear the sound of their voice, enjoy their sweet embrace, or look into their eyes to see a reflection of their love. Just trying to wrap your head around the fact that their absence is permanent and your life will never be the same again is a reality that rips your heart out. When you suffer from that kind of pain, you can’t begin to imagine ever being whole again. It’s as if some part of you died too. Someone once said, “It’s hard to turn the page when you know someone won’t be in the next chapter, but the story must go on.” There is only one way to recover from grief, and that is to cling to God’s promise of hope! Hope in the Lord heals broken hearts and brings comfort that only Jesus can give. The Bible says in 1 Thessalonians 4:13, “Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope.” When you belong to Jesus, death is not the end of the story. Because of Christ’s sacrifice on Calvary, there is a blessed hope. 1 Peter 1:3-4 says, ”Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy, he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil, or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you.” In the resurrection morning, all believers, dead and alive, will be reunited, never to be separated again. Psalm 30:5 tells us, “Weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.” What a beautiful promise of future joy. You are also promised comfort from your broken heart in 2 Corinthians 1:3-4: “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles.” Grief never ends . . . but it changes. It’s a passage, not a place to stay. Grief is not a sign of weakness, nor a lack of faith. It is the price of “love.” Text: Psalm 34:18, Matthew 5:4, Revelation 21:4, Romans 8:18
