LET'S TALK ABOUT IT.
GOD'S FINGERPRINTS ON OUR CALENDAR.

Our months are measured by the moon, our years by the sun—but what about the week? The seven-day week is not based on any celestial body, but on God’s original creation week.

Atheist dictator Joseph Stalin once tried to erase this divine pattern in the Soviet Union by instituting a ten-day week. Under his system, people worked for nine straight days and only rested on the tenth. Unlike God’s design of six days of work and one day of rest, this man-made system quickly broke people down. Their bodies and spirits could not endure the burden, and the attempt ultimately failed.

Throughout history, others have tried to abolish the seven-day week, but none have succeeded. The rhythm God established at creation cannot be erased. It stands as a continual reminder that He made the heavens and the earth in six days and rested on the seventh.

This truth is repeated in Exodus 20:8-10: “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day.” God gave us this pattern for our lives, to bless and sustain us.

The all-powerful Creator could have spoken the universe into being in an instant—but He chose to create in six days and rest on the seventh. Why? Because He knew exactly what we would need. From the very beginning, God set the rhythm of the seven-day week for our good.
