Put Your House in Order

Brothers and Sisters in Christ, today we are reminded of a powerful truth spoken in the Word of God and taught by Jesus Christ: “A house divided against itself cannot stand.” In Luke chapter 11 verse 17, it is written that “every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth.” This is not just about buildings. This is about your life, your family, your spirit, and your calling.

When there is division—confusion, inconsistency, hidden struggles—your foundation becomes weak. Mark chapter 3 verse 25 makes it clear: “if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.” Not that it might fall, not that it could fall—but it cannot stand. You cannot speak faith but live in doubt. You cannot preach love but carry bitterness. You cannot lead others while you are broken within. A divided heart will always produce a divided life. That is why First Corinthians chapter 14 verse 33 reminds us that “God is not the author of confusion, but of peace.” So if confusion is present, then something is out of order.

Many people today want the pulpit before the process. They want ministry before maturity. But God is saying, “Start at home.” And when we speak about your house, we are not just talking about a physical place—we are talking about your character, your habits, your private life, and your relationships. First Timothy chapter 3 verse 5 asks a serious question: “For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?” Before God lifts you publicly, He works on you privately. What you build in secret is what will sustain you in public.

That is why the command in Isaiah chapter 38 verse 1 is so direct: “Set thine house in order.” There are things in your life that must be fixed. There are areas that must be aligned. There are wounds that must be healed. You cannot skip this process. Even Jesus teaches us in Matthew chapter 7 verse 5, “First cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.” In other words, deal with yourself first. Alignment within produces effectiveness without.

When your house is in order, something powerful begins to happen. Your prayer becomes effective. Your voice carries authority. Your ministry produces fruit. Why? Because there is alignment. There is no contradiction between who you are at home and who you are outside. And that is where power flows. Psalm 127 verse 1 says, “Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it.” You can try to build in your own strength, but if God is not at the center, it will not stand.

You are called—yes. But calling alone is not enough. Preparation is necessary. Even those who were used greatly were first prepared deeply. God is saying today, “Fix what is broken. Align what is scattered. Heal what is wounded.” Because your calling is too important to be carried by a divided life.

So today, ask yourself: what in my life is out of order? Where am I divided? What needs to be surrendered? This is not condemnation—this is correction for elevation. God is not rejecting you. He is preparing you. That is why the prayer of David in Psalm 51 verse 10 must become your prayer: “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”

And as you begin to align your life, as you begin to surrender every area to God, you will discover that you are no longer weak, no longer unstable, no longer divided. You will stand. Not just for a moment—but for a lifetime.

So lift your heart and say, “Lord, put my house in order. Align my heart, my mind, and my life. Make me whole, so I can serve You effectively. Remove every division within me. Build me up, so I may stand the test of time.”

A divided house may look strong—but it will fall. An ordered life may take time—but it will stand. So before you go out to change the world, before you step fully into your calling, before you seek to impact others…

Let God first organize your house.
