A Desire to Be Near

Sophie knows the rules.

Every night, she is told to go to her bed.
And every night, she waits…
then quietly makes her way back, climbing onto the corner of the bed, settling in as close as she can.

She knows she isn’t supposed to be there.
But something in her keeps bringing her back.

Not rebellion.
Not defiance.
Just a simple desire to be close.

There is something in creation that reflects this kind of faithfulness.
A loyalty that doesn’t easily let go.
A quiet determination to remain near.

Scripture speaks of a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
Not distant.
Not indifferent.
But near.

God is not like His creation.
But creation often carries echoes of His heart.

The same God who formed us did not design us for distance.
He did not create relationship to be occasional or reserved.

He draws near.

Again and again.

Not because He forgets the boundaries we set,
but because His heart is always toward us.

Where we drift, He remains.
Where we create space, He closes it.
Where we turn away, He still comes near.

Not forcing.
Not demanding.
But inviting.

There is a faithfulness in God that does not give up on proximity.
A desire to be close that is not based on our perfection, but on His nature.

And perhaps what we see in small, simple moments like this
is just a glimpse of something far greater.

We were not created for distance.

We were created to be near Him.
