We are trained to elevate ourselvesâto prove our worth, defend our name, and secure our place. We want promotion without humiliation, and blessings without breaking. Even in prayer, pride quietly resists surrender. Whether striving to prove ourselves or hiding behind strength, the question is not whether we appear strong, but whether we are willing to bow low before God.
ð® ðððŠðð¬ ð:ðð declares, âðð¶ð®ð£ððŠ ðºð°ð¶ð³ðŽðŠðð·ðŠðŽ ðªð¯ ðµð©ðŠ ðŽðªðšð©ðµ ð°ð§ ðµð©ðŠ ðð°ð³ð¥, ð¢ð¯ð¥ ð©ðŠ ðŽð©ð¢ðð ððªð§ðµ ðºð°ð¶ ð¶ð±.â This is not outward modesty, but inward surrender. To be âðªð¯ ðµð©ðŠ ðŽðªðšð©ðµ ð°ð§ ðµð©ðŠ ðð°ð³ð¥â is to stand fully exposed, laying aside self-reliance. God does not raise the self-exaltingâHe lifts the self-abasing. Prayer is effective when pride is laid down.
Like a scale that cannot balance while one side is elevated, the heart cannot receive grace while it exalts itself. âðð°ð¥ ð³ðŠðŽðªðŽðµðŠðµð© ðµð©ðŠ ð±ð³ð°ð¶ð¥, ð£ð¶ðµ ðšðªð·ðŠðµð© ðšð³ð¢ð€ðŠ ð¶ð¯ðµð° ðµð©ðŠ ð©ð¶ð®ð£ððŠâ (ðððŠðð¬ ð:ð). Pride blocks the flow of grace; humility opens the way.
Scripture ties humility directly to Godâs response. âðð§ ð®ðº ð±ðŠð°ð±ððŠâŠ ðŽð©ð¢ðð ð©ð¶ð®ð£ððŠ ðµð©ðŠð®ðŽðŠðð·ðŠðŽ, ð¢ð¯ð¥ ð±ð³ð¢ðºâ (ð ðð¡ð«ðšð§ð¢ðð¥ðð¬ ð:ðð). âðð° ðµð©ðªðŽ ð®ð¢ð¯ ðžðªðð ð ðð°ð°ð¬, ðŠð·ðŠð¯ ðµð° ð©ðªð® ðµð©ð¢ðµ ðªðŽ ð±ð°ð°ð³ ð¢ð¯ð¥ ð°ð§ ð¢ ð€ð°ð¯ðµð³ðªðµðŠ ðŽð±ðªð³ðªðµâ (ðð¬ðð¢ðð¡ ðð:ð). âðð¶ð®ð£ððŠ ðºð°ð¶ð³ðŽðŠðð·ðŠðŽ ðµð©ðŠð³ðŠð§ð°ð³ðŠ ð¶ð¯ð¥ðŠð³ ðµð©ðŠ ð®ðªðšð©ðµðº ð©ð¢ð¯ð¥ ð°ð§ ðð°ð¥â (ð ððððð« ð:ð). âðð©ðŠ ðððð ððªð§ðµðŠðµð© ð¶ð± ðµð©ðŠ ð®ðŠðŠð¬â (ðð¬ðð¥ðŠ ððð:6). Christ modeled this perfectly: âððŠ ð©ð¶ð®ð£ððŠð¥ ð©ðªð®ðŽðŠðð§, ð¢ð¯ð¥ ð£ðŠð€ð¢ð®ðŠ ð°ð£ðŠð¥ðªðŠð¯ðµ ð¶ð¯ðµð° ð¥ðŠð¢ðµð©, ðŠð·ðŠð¯ ðµð©ðŠ ð¥ðŠð¢ðµð© ð°ð§ ðµð©ðŠ ð€ð³ð°ðŽðŽâ (ðð¡ð¢ð¥ð¢ð©ð©ð¢ðð§ð¬ ð:ð). Because of His finished work, we can bow without fearâknowing the One who stooped to save us will raise us in His time.
What pride are you still holding before God? What expectations, demands, or silent insistence that He do things your way? You donât need Christ just to answer your prayersâyou need Him to humble your heart. Today, before you ask for anything, bow. Let your posture teach your soul: He is God, and we are not.
ðð«ðð²ðð«: Heavenly Father, we confess our pride and our desire to be seen. Teach us the beauty of the low place and the power of subjection. Strip away our self-sufficiency and let us rest in Your strength alone. Lift us up in Your perfect time and for Your sole glory. In Jesusâ Name. Amen.
Remember, a dose of Godâs Word a day will keep you going all day!
