THE "YOU" IS PLURAL — THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOUR ENGLISH BIBLE HIDES
"Almost every command in the New Testament is written to a COMMUNITY, not an individual. English hides this fact behind a single word. What if 'Work out your salvation with fear and trembling' was never meant for you alone in a prayer closet? What if the Bible isn't a book of self-help, but a manual for a spiritual army?"
Saints, I need you to lean in and let the Holy Ghost recalibrate your entire understanding of the Word today. By the apostolic and prophetic mandate of heaven, I am issuing a formal indictment against the "Hyper-Individualism" of the Western-influenced church. We have read the Bible through the lens of "Me, Myself, and I," completely missing the fact that the New Testament is addressed to a "Y'all."
For generations, the institutional religious system has allowed us to believe that the Christian life is a solo flight. We think we can grow alone, fight alone, and finish alone. But the Greek language—the language the Holy Spirit chose for the New Covenant—shatters this delusion.
It is time for an expository awakening. Let’s look at the "hidden" plural that changes everything.
THE INDICTMENT: THE GOSPEL OF THE LONELY SOLDIER
The English language has a flaw: "You" can mean one person or a hundred people. Because our culture is obsessed with "Personal Jesus" and "My Private Walk," we automatically assume every "You" in the Bible is a singular pronoun.
The indictment is this: We have privatized the Power of God.
We think "The Temple of God" is just my physical body.
We think "The Armor of God" is something I put on alone in my bedroom.
We think "Work out your salvation" is a private self-improvement project.
By making the "You" singular, we have created a Church of disconnected "Super-Christians" who are easily picked off by the enemy because they don't realize they are part of a phalanx!
EXPOSITORY EVIDENCE: THE RECOVERY OF THE "Y'ALL"
Let the Scriptures dismantle our isolation and reveal the collective nature of the Unstoppable Life:
Philippians 2:12-13 – "Therefore, my beloved... work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you..."
The Prophetic Reality: In the Greek, every "you" and "your" in this verse is PLURAL. Paul isn't telling Timothy to figure it out alone; he is telling the Church at Philippi to work out their corporate life together! The "salvation" being worked out is the health and wholeness of the entire community!
1 Corinthians 3:16 – "Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?"
The Apostolic Boundary: Again, this is PLURAL. While the Holy Spirit dwells in the individual, Paul’s point here is that the assembled community is the Temple! When we stop meeting, stop sharing, and stop "Y'all-ing," we are literally tearing down the Temple of God.
Ephesians 6:10-11 – "Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord... Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand..."
The Indictment: We envision a lone warrior. But the "You" is PLURAL. The armor of God only fully functions when we are standing shoulder-to-shoulder. My shield protects your side; your sword covers my back. A "You" in isolation is an easy target; a "You" in the plural is UNSTOPPABLE.
THE UNSTOPPABLE LIFE: THE POWER OF THE "WE"
The "Unstoppable Life" is a Common Life. * You cannot "Love one another" (John 13:34) by yourself.
You cannot "Submit to one another" (Ephesians 5:21) in isolation.
You cannot "Exhort one another daily" (Hebrews 3:13) through a computer screen alone.
The enemy's primary strategy is Separation. If he can get you to believe the "You" is singular, he can convince you that you don't need the local body, you don't need accountability, and you don't need a family. But the New Testament doesn't know anything about a "Lone Ranger" Christian. The only version of "You" that God recognizes is the one that is "joined and knit together by what every joint supplies" (Ephesians 4:16).

In the mighty, plural, matchless name of Jesus Christ! Amen!
