Chapter 10

Being a Jonah in Tadoussac

Jonah

17 Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

At the end of 2000, Keith gained a new temporary job, working at Her Majesty's prison at Lancaster Castle in the middle of Lancaster, he served as the messenger, doing admin tasks such as photocopying, franking mail etc.

He really enjoyed this job, although it was only temporary and part time, he was able to gain holiday time, which he used to visit his brother in Canada, Mum had already spent the summer there and the plan was for Keith to spend the last three weeks there and to accompany mum back to the UK.

Valerie his sister in law, had asked for some packets of Birds custard powder, seeking to save space, Keith took the packets out of the big packet and hid them amongst his clothes, they came in packets with the date of expiry on them and you have guessed it, when he came to the customs at Montreal airport, he was taken aside by a customs lady, who insisted on going through his case, oh no, how would he get out of this one, having packets of creamy powder in white packets!

I stammered out "it's custard powder"
Fortunately she believed me and even packed my case better than I had done it myself.

Well the year before my brother, had gone to Tadoussac a resort on the mouth of the St Lawrence river where several types of whales could be seen.

So we set off and had a great time, we went on a big boat and to be honest, we didn't see any whales, so that afternoon, we decided to go on a small boat, that was very fast, we saw many whales and that night, we excitedly told everyone that we need to go out again, but this time with mum.

That next morning, we went out in the small boat, myself, mum and peter, it was very windy and Mum could not get on her headscarf, Peter was getting very annoyed.

The trip was only supposed to last three hours, but went on for 4 hours, and by that time, both brothers were absolutely desperate to go in my brother's words to the bogs.
We have never been so happy to see our feet on terra firma, indeed when our feet hit the land, we literally ran like Usain Bolt, straight for the nearest toilet!

Our last adventure was to go up in a helicopter, there were eight of us, so two trips were made, later my nephew Paul told us, that his door was ajar, I am so glad, he didn't mention it, whilst we were up there.

Back on Land, we were having an ordinary day on 11th September 2001, I was having a shower and as I came into the living room, Peter was watching the TV, some plane crash had happened. What we were seeing was the greatest terrorist attack ever, that changed the world forever.

Devotional Thought

Why Have I shared about this holiday, what is it's significance?

It is the last time, we were all together as a family.

We have our own families, earthly ones, who will pass away, but we also have spiritual families, people of every nation and language, who we will spend eternity with.

I live in China, and have many brothers and sisters who love me so much, I have Christian friends, who are American, Australian, South African, French and Ukrainian.

God's family has no language barrier, when we meet another brother and sister from another country, maybe we can't understand the language, but there is an unspoken bond, that cannot be broken.

In Galatians 3 these words are written

28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
