Lighten Your Load.

Every day we carry around extra baggage, whether it is our backpacks, briefcases, purses, diaper bags, wallets, etc., and those bags can weigh quite a bit. Doctors will tell you that carrying around those extra pounds can do long-term damage to our bodies, stressing our muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones, and nerves, which can lead to permanent damage. So it is with our spiritual lives when we carry our own burdens instead of giving them to the Lord. We carry around the heavy weight of resentment, anger, jealousy, and hatred, which is far heavier than an overloaded backpack or computer case! And the damage to our bodies is so much greater. The Bible says in Hebrews 12:1, “Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.” If we are dragging around excess baggage of guilt, holding a grudge, a bad habit, poor self-esteem, bitterness, etc, then it’s time to lighten our loads and place our burdens at the feet of Jesus. He will gladly take the weight off of our shoulders, and we’ll feel light as a feather. And it is then that we’ll be able to experience the real joy of living and run the race God has set for us. Text: Matthew 6:14, Isaiah 58:11, Ephesians 4:3
