INTENTIONAL EXPRESSIONS OF THANKS AND WORSHIP
From: Ron Hawks
“Then the king said, “Turn aside and stand here.” So, he turned aside and stood still…2 Samuel 18:30.”
What do you do when the world around you - or the world as you know it or like it - starts shaking and feels unstable or threatening? What do you do when there seems to be nowhere to rest or feel safe? What do you do when change is in the air, but you are too tired to rise up and make changes?
We must remind ourselves and each other that we are receiving a Kingdom that cannot ever be shaken. (Hebrews 12:28) We are receiving the Kingdom of God - a Kingdom ruled by the Prince of Peace. This Kingdom is beyond tangible. It's not always easy to discern when it's in our midst because it is within us. (Luke 17:21) The Kingdom that we are receiving is an awareness of God's presence and sovereign rule. It's an awareness of His omnipotence and His lordship over time and results.
When our lives are threatening to fall apart under the seismic pressures and forces around us, we can stop, turn and worship the Lord. In times of trouble, we must turn from fear and move in an opposite spirit. We can break the negative downward spiral of thoughts with intentional expressions of thanks and worship.
Rather than focusing on what isn't happening, or upon possible negative scenarios, we can declare His greatness and His eternal certainties. Our lives are in His hands; we need not fear; we are receiving a Kingdom that cannot be shaken.
"Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup;
you make my lot secure.
The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
surely I have a delightful inheritance.
I will praise the Lord, who counsels me;
even at night my heart instructs me.
I keep my eyes always on the Lord.
With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken." (Psalm 16:5-8)
