Good morning to everyone. Grace and Peace be with you.

Traditionally speaking, when a family member dies, you pay your respects. It has little to do with the deceased, but more to do with respect for the family. This is a tradition that seems to be falling by the wayside. The enemy has systematically devised a plan to degrade this tradition. However, yesterday I witnessed a strong and very opinionated woman being laid to rest. From my perspective as part of the family, our relationship was one of respect the other by showing distance. Meaning, we both knew that we would probably lock horns and neither saw a positive ending. So we respected space.

My original thought was to do my family diligence, pay my respects at the visitation, and then depart. That did not happen. As I entered the funeral home, I was met by family that I had not seen in years. Our conversations were respectful and endearing. The family respect that is from days of old. The eulogies provided showcased a woman that I did not know, but could relate to because, honestly, we sound a lot alike. Later at the dinner, I learned about other family members and history that I was not aware of, and they learned about me.

Once upon a time, we did family reunions. A yearly event where we all got together as a family and reunited to review the year’s events. Over time, those have gone by the wayside, for various reasons. It is a shame. I remember as a child going to Oxford, meeting up with my cousins, and running in the park until we were told to come eat. Those are some of the best memories of my childhood.

The nuclear family is disintegrating, almost to oblivion. Long-lasting marriages are so rare. Yesterday was a great reminder and a history lesson. Nuclear families are possible if you want it enough. The woman who is now sitting at the feet of Jesus selected her friends on earth cautiously but fought hard for her family. It was an honor to meet new family members, reconnect with old family members, learn of the woman a select few knew, and honor Him in the process.

Everything in life has a time and a place. Everything in life has a purpose. Most of the time, we do not understand or we do not agree with the situation, but there is a reason. That reason generally is to help us grow, not only as a person, but in Him as well. However, when we lean into Him and trust in His plan, the peace and education that you receive are immeasurable.

Be blessed.

**Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost you all you have, get understanding. – Proverbs 4:7
