"The earth produces by itself, first the stalk, then the head, then the full grain in the head."
Mark 4:28
GROWTH THAT WORKS IN SILENCE
This parable of the sower who sleeps, and for whom the seed grows without him understanding how, speaks of growth that occurs without the sower knowing how. Meanwhile, the seed is at work. This parable is found only in the Gospel of Mark.
"By itself," the original Greek word, gave us the English word "automatically." The earth produces automatically, without the sower having to intervene in the growth process. He can sow and let what he has sown do its work.
This parable comes to free us from the anxiety of "producing results" in our spiritual life and ministry. Our responsibility is to sow. Growth belongs to God. We don't understand how He makes things grow, and we don't need to. Let's sow faithfully, rest, and trust in the process God has put in place.
In your spiritual life, your prayers, your life of the Word, your ministry, your sowing of the Word in the lives of others, are you anxious about not seeing immediate growth? Remember: the earth produces on its own. It is God who makes things grow. As for you, your faithfulness in sowing and continuing to sow is sufficient.
May God free us from the anxiety of producing results for people to see, even if they will see them. Let's sow His Word faithfully. Let's entrust the growth to Him. Let's be at peace in His presence and in the certainty that His seed is working unseen in the name of Jesus. God bless you.
