LESSON: Romans 7:15-25
TOPIC THE BATTLE WITHIN:
WHEN YOUR FLESH FIGHTS YOUR CALLING
TEXT:
For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.
Galatians 5:17 (NKJV)
INTRODUCTION:
The conflict within a believer is not imagination. Scripture already said it: the flesh and the Spirit are in opposition. Even Romans 7:15-25 shows a servant of God struggling—“what I want to do, I do not do…”
So this battle is real… and it is biblical.
EXPOSITION:
[1]. THE FLESH SPEAKS LOUD IN SEASONS OF LACK:
Texts: Matthew 4:3-4, Proverbs 30:8-9
When Jesus was hungry, the tempter came. Not when He was full… when He lacked. Hunger creates vulnerability. Even Agur prayed, “give me neither poverty nor riches…” because lack can push a man toward compromise. The flesh will always suggest, “solve it your own way.” But every shortcut has a spiritual cost.
[2]. YOUR CALLING WILL BE TESTED BY YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES:
Texts: 1 Peter 1:6-7, Hebrews 11:25-26
Faith is not proven in comfort. It is tested in pressure.
Moses chose affliction over temporary pleasure because he saw something greater. That’s not normal thinking… that’s conviction. Your situation may not match your calling right now, but testing is part of the process. Fire does not destroy gold—it reveals it.
[3]. WAITING ON GOD IS SPIRITUAL WARFARE:
Texts: Isaiah 40:31, Psalm 27:14, Lamentations 3:25-26
Waiting is not passive. It is active trust.
To remain when you could run… to obey when it is hard… that is warfare. Scripture says those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength. Not maybe… shall.
God is not slow. He is intentional.
CONCLUSION:
DO NOT CAST AWAY YOUR CONFIDENCE.
Texts: 2 Corinthians 4:8-9, Hebrews 10:35-36
You may be pressed, but not crushed. Struggling, but not abandoned. The battle within does not mean God has left you—it means something in you is still fighting for righteousness. Do not cast away your confidence.
There is a reward attached to endurance.
PRAYER:
Father, according to Philippians 2:13, work in us both to will and to do Your good pleasure. Strengthen us where we are weak. Help us to stand, to endure, and not to compromise. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
GOODWILL MESSAGE:
1 Corinthians 15:58 says:
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
HAPPY BEAUTIFUL SUNDAY
HAVE A REWARDING WEEK.
REMEMBER THIS
JESUS IS COMING BACK AGAIN
REPENT AND BE READY FOR HIM
