“Examine Yourself”
Scripture (NKJV):
“Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified.” — 2 Corinthians 13:5
This is one of the most sobering commands in all of Scripture. It’s not written to unbelievers—it’s written to people in the church.
“Examine yourselves.”
Not your neighbor. Not your pastor. Not your family. Yourself.
The Christian life is not about claiming a moment—it’s about possessing a reality. Salvation is not proven by a past decision alone, but by a present transformation. If Christ is truly in you, there will be evidence:
A growing hatred for sin
A genuine love for God’s Word
A desire to obey Christ, even when it costs you
Conviction when you fall, not comfort in staying there
This isn’t about perfection—but it is about direction.
A faith that never changes you is a faith that never saved you.
Paul doesn’t say, “Assume you’re fine.” He says, “Test yourselves.” Put your life up against Scripture, not feelings. Feelings can lie. Culture can deceive. Even religious activity can mask a dead heart.
Here’s the weight of it:
You can attend church, know the language, and still be lost.
But here’s the hope:
If the Spirit of God is stirring conviction in you right now—that’s mercy. That’s God calling you to make things right.
Don’t ignore it. Don’t delay it.
Run to Christ—not casually, but completely.
“For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13, NKJV)
Prayer:
Lord, search me and know me. Strip away anything false in my life. I don’t want a superficial faith—I want Christ in me, truly and fully. If there is sin I’m holding onto, I surrender it now. Strengthen me to walk in truth and obedience. Let my life bear real fruit that proves You are in me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
