At the moment of Jesus’ death, the thick temple curtain separating humanity from the Holy of Holies tore from top to bottom. This signified that the barrier between God and humanity created by sin was removed. The tearing opened direct access to God for all people, ending the need for human priests to mediate, and marking the transition from the Old to the New Covenant.
