“Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.”
Acts 2:36
THE LORDSHIP OF CHRIST PROCLAIMED
The first Christian sermon concludes with these words: God has made this Jesus Lord and Christ. Not “Jesus is a lord among others” nor “Jesus is Lord for those who choose him.” God has made him Lord; this is a sovereign act that does not depend on our will.
The fact that many do not recognize him as Lord does not diminish his lordship; it defines their position and their judgment before him.
“Whom you crucified”—Peter is not minimizing his audience’s complicity in the death of Jesus. And yet, it is precisely this crucified Jesus whom God resurrected and exalted as Lord. The cross was not a defeat; it was the path to the investiture of the Lord of lords.
Do we truly live under the Lordship of Christ, not just by professing Him with our lips, but by submitting our decisions, our relationships, our money, our future? The Lordship of Christ must be total.
Lord Jesus, I acknowledge You as Lord of my life, not just in name, but in every area. May Your Lordship be effective and tangible in my choices today. Amen.
