Good morning to everyone. Grace and Peace be with you.
When I first started talking about retirement, my husband acknowledged a concern on my behalf. He said that he did not want me just sitting around all day at my computer. I giggle a little because that is where I do my writing, and I cannot write a story standing up. I could barely do my work standing up. Last night, as we were filling our plates for dinner and talking about our days, he mentioned it again. Reason being, I had spent all day at my computer writing. I had said that it feels like I have written more in the last three weeks than I have in the last year. He mentioned his concern again, to which this time I reminded him that I have to sit at my computer in order to write, and that is what I do. Come to find out, his concern was not that I was writing, but he was afraid that I would become a statistic of retirees who just quit moving altogether and die. I promised him that I would not let that happen.
Though I have written a lot in the last three weeks, I have been far from stagnant at my desk…or even she shed. I will admit that I need to start walking again; that is just a matter of getting my lazy bones moving. Where his concern is valid statistically, my mind is far from stationary. I believe that those statistics are from those who become couch potatoes. We still have, basically, the same routine as before I quit going to work. He goes to his shop, I go to my tasks for the day (writing, fundraising, taking care of household chores, dinner, etc). Then we sit down and watch television together in the evening for a couple of hours before bed. The only real difference is that I am not spending the gas every day to do my tasks.
God truly has given me a good one in this man. He drives me completely bonkers most days, but that avenue runs both ways freely. We are both middle kids who left home early in life and proved that we could live on our own. We are from the same general area, so moving home was not a question. We argue. We stand toe to toe. We love. We protect. We care. I am so very thankful for him. God knew what he was doing when he placed us together.
Who is in your life that you are completely thankful for? Be sure today to take the time to let them know how much they mean to you. It does not have to be financially backed; a simple endearing hug while whispering “I love you and thank you” will suffice. God gave us these blessings, so be sure to thank Him as well.
Be blessed.
**The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” –Genesis 2:18
