Title: ACTIVE FAITH: SOWING FOR BLESSING AND PRAYING THROUGH PROPHECY

(Compiled By) Televangelist HB Morgan Digital Library Publications

PRELUDE & CONTEXT SETTING

Beloved, the Christian journey is not one of passivity but of dynamic, active engagement with the laws of God’s Kingdom. Today, we explore two seemingly different spiritual operations that are, in fact, deeply connected: the principle of sowing to receive, and the authority to avert negative prophecies through prayer. One deals with the positive activation of God's promises (blessings for obedience), and the other deals with the cancellation of negative decrees through repentance. Together, they reveal a God who is both a Law-Giver and a Hearer of prayers—a God whose decrees can be shifted by a contrite heart. Let us dive into the depth of these truths.

SCRIPTURE FOCUS

Galatians 6:7 (KJV)

"Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap."

Isaiah 38:1-5 (KJV)

"In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came unto him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live. Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, and prayed unto the LORD, and said, Remember now, O LORD, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore. Then came the word of the LORD to Isaiah, saying, Go, and say to Hezekiah, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years."

DEVOTIONAL EXPOSITION

Part 1: The Irreducible Law of Sowing and Reaping

The Apostle Paul delivers a stern warning in Galatians 6:7: “Be not deceived; God is not mocked.” This means you cannot fool the divine system of the universe. There are no loopholes. What you plant—whether in finances, time, relationships, or character—is exactly what will grow in your life. This is not a suggestion; it is a spiritual law as fixed as gravity. The Lord Jesus Himself affirmed this in Luke 6:38: “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.”

Consider a simple natural analogy: a woman cannot expect to conceive a child without the act of sexual intercourse. In the same way, a believer cannot expect supernatural financial overflow without the seed of giving. This brings us to the specific practice of tithing (bringing one-tenth of your increase into God’s house). Malachi 3:10 is God’s standing challenge: “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse... and prove me now herewith... if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.”

A Critical Clarification: Tithing must not be a religious ritual or a source of judgment against others. God desires it to be a personal revelation born out of love and trust. A believer who looks around to compare tithers with non-tithers, measuring who is more “blessed,” has not yet grasped the heart of the matter. Do not force anyone to tithe; rather, teach the principle patiently. When the revelation dawns on a heart that God is the Source, and that tithing is an act of honour and faith, the obedience will flow freely—and with it, the windows of heaven will open.

Part 2: Averting Negative Prophecies Through Prayer

Now, we encounter a profound tension. If sowing and reaping is a law, does that mean we are helpless when a negative prophecy is spoken over us? The story of King Hezekiah provides a resounding answer: No. A prophecy is a forthtelling—a declaration of something to come. Often, prophecies (even those from God) can be conditional, based on the current state of a person’s heart or actions.

The word “Avert” means to turn away one’s gaze or to prevent something unpleasant from occurring. King Hezekiah was given a direct word from the Lord through the prophet Isaiah: “Set thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live.” Humanly speaking, that was a divine “yes” to death. But Hezekiah understood a secret: God’s final will can be unlocked by prayer. He turned his face to the wall (a posture of intense, private focus) and prayed with repentance and tears. He reminded God of his faithful walk. And God responded immediately before Isaiah even left the courtyard: “I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years.”

The Key Lesson: You can say “no” to God’s temporary “yes” when that “yes” is a warning meant to drive you to your knees. The first and most powerful way to avert a negative prophecy is through the prayer of repentance with tears—a broken and contrite heart that God will not despise (Psalm 51:17). Hezekiah did not argue with the prophet; he argued with God in prayer. And he won.

HARMONIZING THE TWO TRUTHS

At first glance, “you reap what you sow” (law) and “you can avert a prophecy” (grace through prayer) might seem contradictory. But they are two sides of the same coin. The law of sowing and reaping governs the normal course of life. If you sow stinginess, you reap lack. If you sow rebellion, you reap judgment. However, prayer and repentance are the supernatural interventions that can uproot what has been sown or change the course of a prophetic declaration. Hezekiah had sown righteousness; therefore, when death came knocking, he had a history of faithfulness to plead. His tears activated a divine override. Beloved, sow generously so that when you need to avert a crisis, you have a testimony to stand on.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, I come before You with a heart open to receive Your truth. Thank You for the unchanging law of sowing and reaping. Forgive me for the times I have withheld my tithes and offerings, thereby blocking the windows of heaven over my life. Lord, give me a personal revelation of tithing—not as a burden, but as a joyful key to supernatural provision.

Furthermore, Father, I thank You for the revelation that negative prophecies and death decrees can be averted. Like King Hezekiah, I turn my face toward the wall of Your presence. I search my heart, repent of every known sin, and weep over any area where I have walked in disobedience. I reject every word spoken against my life that does not align with Your ultimate plan for my peace and longevity. By the blood of Jesus, I cancel every negative pronouncement. Lord, add to my days, add to my health, and add to my destiny. Help me to live with the Spirit of Grace, turning every potential crisis into a testimony of Your mercy. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

WISDOM CAPSULE

Proverbs 8:29 (MSG) – “When he drew a boundary for Sea, posted a sign that said no trespassing, And then staked out Earth’s Foundations…”

Proverbs 24:10 (MSG) – “If you fall to pieces in a crisis, there wasn’t much to you in the first place.”

Final Wisdom: The God who set boundaries for the sea has also set boundaries for your trials. And He has given you the keys of sowing and prayer to navigate every crisis. Do not fall to pieces. Instead, fall to your knees. A sower does not panic, and a praying believer does not despair. Your harvest is coming, and your healing is on the way.

REFLECTION FOR TODAY

1. Is there an area where I am expecting a harvest (blessing, breakthrough, healing) but have not planted any seed (time, giving, obedience)?
2. Is there a negative word or “prophecy” spoken over my life (by a doctor, a critic, or even a careless friend) that I need to bring before the Lord in tearful prayer today?
3. How can I combine the principle of sowing with the prayer of repentance to see a complete turnaround in my situation?

This is your companion for a life of active, powerful faith. Go, sow generously, and pray fervently.
