A Polluted River
You can think of the world system as a polluted river.
1. One tributary is the tributary of worldly entertainment.
2. Another tributary is the tributary of consumerism.
3. Still another tributary in this polluted river is the tributary of empire.
All of these tributaries are part of the same polluted river. In other words, they are all part of the world system.
