Qualifications for Elders

Titus 1:5-9

You might put what’s left in order,
The way you have been directed;
In each town appoint and elder,
A true believer selected.

If anyone above reproach,
As the husband having one wife;
Unto them you should then approach,
With children of faith in his life.

Do not charge with debauchery,
Or having insubordination;
Conducting in adultery,
Any type of fornication.

An overseer to be God’s steward,
Not a drunkard or violent;
Not arrogant or quick-tempered;
But as faithfully vigilant.

Hospitable, lover of good,
Upright, holy, and disciplined;
Always doing what Jesus would,
Confessing what they have sinned.

He must hold fast unto the Word,
Trustworthy all that he was taught;
Rebuking of what he has heard,
That is blasphemy what others sought.

So that he may give sound doctrine,
Rebuking the contradictions;
So that others be without sin,
Preventing sinful convictions.
