When Perfection Was Lost.
Bible Text:
Ecclesiastes 7:29 (KJV)
“Lo, this only have I found, that God hath made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions.”
God is a perfect God, and everything He created in the beginning reflected that perfection. Creation was not flawed, broken, or incomplete. It carried divine order, purity, and accuracy. When God made man, He made him upright—aligned with His will, His nature, and His truth.
There was no corruption in man’s design, no defect in his essence. However, perfection was not lost because God created something faulty—it was altered by man’s own choice.
Through disobedience, sin entered, and that single act shifted the entire state of man. What was once pure became corrupted. What was once aligned became distorted. Man did not lose his worth, but he lost his original condition. The fall of man was not just a moral failure; it was a transformation of nature.
This is why everything that proceeds from man carries limitation. His thinking, his systems, his inventions—no matter how advanced—can never reach absolute perfection. Not because man lacks intelligence or creativity, but because the source itself has been affected. A corrupted root cannot produce flawless fruit.
Yet, even in this state, man still bears the image of God. This is why he can create things that are remarkable, beautiful, and impactful. There are traces of divine expression in human ability. But these expressions are only reflections, not the full reality. They point to perfection, but they are not perfection itself.
The struggle of humanity is often this: trying to produce perfect outcomes from an imperfect nature. It is the reason systems fail, structures break, and even the best intentions fall short. Man may strive for perfection, but he cannot generate it independently of God.
True restoration, therefore, is not found in improving human effort alone, but in reconnecting with the One who is perfect. Only God restores what was lost. Only He brings man back into alignment with the standard that existed from the beginning.
Until then, everything man creates will always carry a trace of imperfection—because perfection was never meant to exist apart from God.
