"Tribal Christians in Chhattisgarh, India need your prayers as they are being threatened and pressured to reconvert. Over the next several days some tribal believers are under tremendous pressure to go back to their previous faith. If they don't do so at a "Ghar Wapsi" (an event meaning "homecoming," where converts return to their former beliefs) on April 30, they are being threatened with significant consequences.
On April 7, an organization of tribal groups assembled around 800 people demanding the reconversion of any Christian converts. At that meeting, village representatives from several villages alleged that attempts to convert people away from traditional customs and faith in tribal deities are increasing in the area. They stated that such conversions will not be tolerated within the community.
Although no specific individuals were named, they demanded strict action against those who have converted. At the event, it was clear that conversion to Christianity was viewed as a threat to cultural and ethnic identity.
Due to increasing social pressure, some families have expressed their willingness to undergo the "Ghar Wapsi" ceremony, while several other Christians are reportedly living in fear of large-scale protests and forced reconversions."
Prayer Warriors, let's pray for our brothers and sisters faith to remain strong leading up to and through this April 30th deadline.
"But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us. We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our bodies."
-2 Corinthians 4:7-10
Oh Good Heavenly Father, we pray for our brothers and sisters in India. Lord, strengthen and uphold them through this immense pressure in their tribal communities. We pray for a supernatural, deeply rooted faithfulness, particularly for new converts that are just beginning their walk with You. Manifest the resurrection power of Jesus' life in their hearts and minds to give them the strength to endure. We pray for their rapid spiritual maturity and biblical understanding and perspective. Holy Spirit, recall scripture and Bible verses to their minds, ones that they may have only heard once, may they be cemented in their hearts and minds to give them steadfast resolve in the face of extreme pressure, firmly convinced of Your Surpassing Power. We pray for the authorities in the region to actively protect the vulnerable and maintain peace and order in this time. We know that persecution brings great spiritual growth, so we also pray for the pastors and shepherds in these communities to be protected and lead and shepherd these precious brothers and sisters through times of affliction and persecution in such a way that the love of Jesus is widely shown. May others in these tribal communities, all the way up to the tribal leaders see the profound difference and be drawn to Jesus. You can redeem all things, and we pray for this "homecoming" to tribal, pagan worship on April 30 would instead be the beginning of a truer homecoming of people coming to know their Creator and salvation through His Son, Jesus.
