The Decision to Change

I remember a time in my life where I kept telling myself:

“I’ll change… just not today.”

Not because I didn’t see the problem.

Not because I didn’t feel the consequences.

But because today was comfortable.

And tomorrow?

Tomorrow felt like a better day to start.

But here’s what I didn’t realize at the time…

Every day I delayed the decision… I was reinforcing the same life I said I didn’t want.

Nothing changed… because I didn’t.

Let’s be honest right from the start…

Most people don’t struggle with knowing they need to change.

They struggle with actually deciding to change.

Because change sounds good…
until it requires something from you.

Until it costs you comfort.
Until it disrupts your routine.
Until it forces you to face things you’ve been avoiding.

And here’s the truth:

Change doesn’t start when you feel ready. It starts when you decide.

The Bible says in Romans 12:2:
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…”

That word transformed—it doesn’t mean improved.

It means completely changed.
And it starts in your mind.

Not your environment.
Not your circumstances.

Your mind.
Because if your thinking doesn’t change, your life won’t either.

Some of us are waiting to feel different before we act different.
But it doesn’t work like that.
You act your way into change… not feel your way into it.

In recovery, this is where everything begins.

It’s that moment where you stop saying:

“It’s not that bad…”
“I can manage it…”
“I’ll deal with it later…”

And you say:
“This has to change. And it starts with me.”

And this is where ownership comes in.

No blaming your past.
No blaming other people.
No excuses.

Just a decision:

“I take responsibility for my life from this point forward.”

And listen—you don’t need to have it all figured out.

You just need to take the first step.
Because the moment you truly decide…
Something shifts.

You stop drifting…
And you start moving with intention.

So here’s the question you need to answer today:

Are you interested in change… or are you committed to it?

Because those are two very different things.
