WHY PARABLES?
"Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them."
— Matthew 13:11
The parable is not an obscuring of the truth; it reveals the inner state of the listener. Isaiah prophesied it: a people may look but not see, hear but not understand (Isaiah 6:9-10).
The word of God does not speak to the intellect alone. It speaks to the disposition of the heart. What opens the heart to revelation is humility. This humility does not come to confirm what it already believes; it comes to receive what it does not yet know. A humble heart becomes a sanctuary of revelation. A proud heart remains a blind fortress.
Before reading the Word today or listening to a teaching or sermon, pause for a moment and ask yourself this simple question: What new thing does God want to teach me?
What area of your life remains closed to what God wants to say there?
Lord, open my eyes to see, my ears to hear, and my heart to receive. Remove from me everything that resists your word. May I not only be a listener of your Word, but a heart transformed by it. Amen.
