In the teachings of the Bible, both hearing and reading play powerful roles in a person’s spiritual growth, but they work in different ways. When we hear the Word of God—through preaching, teaching, or testimony—it often moves the heart and stirs us to respond and change. As written in Romans 10:17, “faith comes by hearing,” showing that listening can awaken belief and lead to transformation. On the other hand, when we read the Holy Scriptures with focus and sincerity, we gain understanding and wisdom. The Word becomes like a guide and a mirror, helping us recognize what is right and what needs to change within us (as reflected in James 1:22–25). Therefore, hearing God’s Word inspires us to change, while reading it deeply teaches and shapes our lives according to truth.
