The contradiction in comments like this is impossible to ignore.
“I’m not under the Ten Commandments… I don’t kill because the law is written on my heart.”
Okay… but WHAT law is written on your heart?
If murder is still wrong, then you are still appealing to God’s moral standard. You’re borrowing morality from the very law you claim no longer applies. The New Covenant never says God abolished His law — it says He would write it in the heart.
Jeremiah 31:33:
“I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts.”
Hebrews 8 repeats the exact same promise. Notice: God does not say, “I’ll replace My law.” He says He will internalize it.
The problem with Israel was never that God’s law was bad. The problem was that sinful hearts resisted it. The New Covenant fixes the HEART, not the standard.
Paul himself destroys this “the law is gone” teaching in Romans 7. He literally quotes the Ten Commandments:
“I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.”
That is the 10th commandment.
So according to Paul, the law still defines sin. And 1 John 3:4 says:
“Sin is the transgression of the law.”
If the law is abolished, then what exactly is sin?
And notice the inconsistency modern Christianity creates:
Murder? Still sin.
Adultery? Still sin.
Stealing? Still sin.
Idolatry? Still sin.
But suddenly when the Sabbath commandment comes up, people start acting like the entire law vanished at the cross.
That’s not biblical consistency. That’s selective obedience.
Romans 13 says love fulfills the law, then Paul immediately quotes commandments against adultery, murder, theft, and coveting. Why? Because the law defines what love actually looks like.
The gospel is not freedom to continue in rebellion while claiming grace covers it. Grace is God’s power to transform the heart so obedience becomes possible through Christ.
