“Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.”
Exodus 20 verse 12.
God gave us the first three commandments to show us our relationship with Him. The other six reveal our relationships with others. One can’t help but notice that the first of this group tells us about our mothers and fathers. Since that is first in line, we believe God thinks that is very important and offer this reading to honor mothers.
To every woman who has been a willing vessel through which the grace and kindness of Jesus Christ has flowed to the heart of a child, we honor you.
To every mom who has put personal goals and dreams aside to give her all to the upbringing of her children, we praise you.
To every grandmother who has lovingly taken on the role of teaching her grandchildren the goodness and mercy of our heavenly Father, we thank you.
To every mother in the world who has chosen life and allowed God to knit together a child in her womb to fulfill His purpose and reveal His glory, we celebrate you.
For the countless days each one of you have sacrificed time, exercised patience, given tirelessly, loved unconditionally, and prayed faithfully, we ask God in turn to give you strength, mercy, joy, comfort, wisdom, and hope. And even though we have but one “Mother’s Day” each year, we know that you are serving God every day—and shaping the life of a child is one of the greatest and most important purposes He gives. Thank you for accepting it...and nurturing the gift that He’s presented to you.
To all mothers: We pray for God’s continued blessings on your life, the lives of your children, and the love and joy He’s given you to share. May you treasure the happy moments, be strengthened through the trials, and find comfort in His mercies at the beginning and end of every day.
