Just one little key... AND a willing hand !
It could be seen as the culmination to one of the most complex and ‘nail-biting’ Space Exploration’ conclusions to NASA’S objective to return humankind to the surface of the moon.
It entailed a massively complex and expensive operation to send four astronauts to circle the dark side of the moon; taking thousands of photos and videos of the hitherto largely unseen surface and to return safely to earth, with accompanying personal impressions and sketches.
There were few little irregularities that hadn’t been anticipated ( aside from occasional ‘steamed up’ windows and an onboard toilet which didn’t ‘perform’ to expectations ).
Splashdown of their capsule in the Pacific Ocean and meeting up with retrieval crews was ‘right on the nose’
It only remained for the astronauts to see and breathe REAL fresh air once more !
How was it accomplished ?
... with the insert of a small ‘front door key’ and the flick of a crewman’s wrist ! The video demonstrates that.
What if the key didn’t function or had been mislaid or the Artemis II capsule lock refused to co-operate?
None of that happened.
