Good morning to everyone. Grace and Peace be with you.
What kind of witness are you?
Yeah, did not warn you of the instant pop quiz this morning. But at least it is only one question. A serious one, but only one. Now there will be some rhetorical follow-ups, but I know you will be able to answer.
Are you the witness who is “Go God” when everything is smooth and sunny? Are you the witness who is “Go God” but always looking for the other shoe to drop?” Are you the witness that is “Go God” but only in the privacy of your prayer closet? Are you the witness that is “Go God” regardless of the circumstance?”
Let’s be honest here, we all want to say that we are the last one … and always that one, but we also know that would be indicative of being Jesus perfect and we are far from that. Now, we can be close to that, but not always, because we are programmed to have a little doubt (thanks to the world).
Now, I would surmise that we are probably more the first one. We don’t want to admit it, but it is very easy to be pro-God when nothing is going wrong. Think about it, bills are paid, money left over in the bank, food in the cabinets, kids are healthy … what is there to not be pro-God for?
I have met some and even been this one as well, the second witness … yes, I believe, but today feels off, and something is going to happen to make it worse. God is my source of Light every day, but … I love God but … Today is great but … Sound familiar. I believe that we all have those days from time to time.
The third one is the one that scares me the most. I have been this witness for a short time, but still I was there. I believe, but no one needs to know my business. You make your choices, and I will make mine. You have no business in my personal life. That mentality of not sharing because it is no one’s business. Then claiming to be a prayer warrior because you grace over your food.
Guilty as charged.
How do we become a better witness? It is easy and hard at the same time. Easy because all it takes is the heartfelt commitment of putting yourself out there for the world’s ridicule, yet hard because you have to put yourself out there for the world’s ridicule.
The world has systematically, over the years, painted the Christian as single-minded in a negative manner. Yes, we are single-minded, but in a loving manner, in a forgiving manner, in a come-as-you-are manner. It is not my job to judge your sin; it is my job to let you know that you are breaking God’s heart with your sin and accept responsibility for my own sin. It is not my job to tell you that you are perfect, but you are flawed and loved despite your flaws. It is my job to pray for you and offer up guidance that God has given me for you. It is my job to love … even when it is difficult. Speak truth … even when it is not wanted. To be present even when I am not wanted.
To be an effective witness, I believe that we must do as Christ says and die to our cross and pick up His. His cross is difficult because the world says that ‘self-help’ is more important than helping others. (That is an entirely different message.)
Today I would like to encourage you to go to Him in prayer and ask him to show you the witness that you currently are and be open to His answer. Then ask him to show the witness that He wants you to be … and again, be open. You will be amazed and filled with His Spirit.
Be blessed.
