Defending the Gospel
Philippians 1:12-18

I want you to know what occurred,
Betide to advance the Gospel;
Unto me that has really served,
Making it known to the people.

It has become known all throughout,
My bonds in Christ are manifest;
The imperial guard no doubt,
In the palace to all the rest.

I am confident in the Lord,
Waxing confidence by my bonds;
Boldly to speak in one accord,
Without fear knowing He responds.

Some preach of Christ from rivalry,
But others also of good will;
Even some with strife in envy,
Wrong direction that they instill.

The one preach Christ of contention,
But not doing it out of love;
In defense having apprehension,
Affliction to my bonds above.

Some have a selfish ambition,
Not sincerely what they proclaim;
But the other of love affliction,
Defending the Gospel of His name.

Whether in pretense or in truth,
That I rejoice when Christ is preached;
Exposing those that are uncouth,
From the darkness of their out-reach.
