A delusion is operating within the hearts of all humanity, a delusion about God and about ourselves. Men and women were born with a desire to ascend, to reach the heights of the heavens and express the fullness of human potential. The delusional thinking clouds and distorts this ache when we imagine that we can ascend higher than God in perfection and potential, and therefore we have no need of Him. The ungodliness and unrighteousness of humanity sees God as dispensable—useful if He blesses us and helps us build the world we desire to build, if He serves our will. Humanity therefore desires ascent, but also desires that God would descend.
