“You will show me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” — Psalm 16:11 JOY IN HIS PRESENCE, NOW ON With great confidence, David concludes this psalm with a vision of God’s presence as the source of joy, not only in the future eternity but even now. “You will show me the path of life.” The present and the future are together. This presence of God guides us in the present and opens us to abundant joy. “Fullness of joy in your presence”—the presence of God is itself joy. Not that God distributes joy from a distance; his face, that is, his presence, is the place where joy dwells. “Pleasures forevermore at your right hand.” David already sees a permanent dwelling in the joy of God’s presence. Eternity is an eternity of delights. Do you seek joy in human company, worldly experiences, successes, or intense emotions? All these joys are limited. But the joy "in His presence" is of a different nature, inexhaustible and permanent. Seek it first. May the presence of God be the source of your deepest joy.
