Judging Is God’s Job
It’s quite common to meet someone for the first time and immediately form an opinion about what kind of person they are or whether or not you like them. That quick assessment, though, is usually based on how you feel about that person or your own personal biases. But there’s a very fine line between having an opinion and “judging.” When you judge someone based on limited knowledge or facts, it’s usually not an accurate assessment, nor is it fair, but more importantly, it is something God says not to do. Bottom line - judging someone is a sin! In fact, God says that anyone who does so will be held accountable in the judgment day. Matthew 7:1 tells us, “Do not judge, or you too will be judged.” When you look at someone else with rebuke, contempt, or a ‘better than thou ’ attitude - it creates a spirit of arrogance and pride - not a Christ-like attitude at all. God loves all His children equally- although He created each one to be uniquely different. Not everyone was born with the same physical appearance or personality - because it was part of God’s plan. This world would be a very boring place if everyone was the same! Instead of being critical of each other, God wants you to be loving, kind, thoughtful. Not everyone will be like you, or like the same things you do, or always share your opinion - and that’s okay because God designed it that way! Remember that judging is God’s job - so try loving people more, embracing their differences, and leave the judging to God! Text: Luke 6:37- 42, James 4:11-12, Romans 2:1-3, Romans 14:1-13
