Renewal

2 Corinthians 4:16 (NASB 1995)—Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day.
Our small country road is being repaved. I assumed that the paving company would just put a new coat of asphalt over the existing pavement. I thought that the whole process would take one or two days. Instead, the paving company is removing and grinding up the pavement. The roadbed is being fully rebuilt, with new asphalt installed over a reconditioned surface. The process will take time.
This paving experience reminds me of how God works in our lives. When we become Christians, our hearts are changed. We don’t experience just a cosmetic change. Then, God, through the Holy Spirit, forms and strengthens our faith. The Christian life is filled with growth and renewal. God is constantly forming us into Jesus’ likeness.
Are you being renewed daily? We can use David’s words to pray for God’s renewal in our lives. David prayed saying, “Create in me a clean heart, O God,And renew a steadfast spirit within me.” (Psalm 51:10, NASB 1995)
