OUR ON-CALL GOD - by Ben Streett, Th.M.
Today's Scripture reading: Jeremiah 33:1-26
"In the 1930s, a pay phone call only cost 2 cents. Times were rough, and our country was in the midst of a deep depression. Penny loafers were invented that had a space with just enough room for a penny in each shoe. People had very little during that time, but if they had a couple of pennies, they could call a local friend or family to ask for help or to just talk for a while.
In today's scripture reading, Jeremiah is still imprisoned, but the Lord still gives him encouragement about his situation and that of Judah. The Lord reminded Jeremiah that if he needed Him, all he had to do was call unto Him. Jeremiah is often referred to as the weeping prophet, and the word "call" in verse 3 was for Jeremiah to cry out to God for help, relief, and protection. He was reminding the prophet that, as his Heavenly Father, He was always on call, just a prayer away.
Today, we still serve an oncall God who is ready and willing to answer us, and as our highlighted scripture says, show us "great and mighty things" that he wants to do to, and through us. When was the last time that you called on the Lord? He's just a prayer away. Selah"
