Hello, I would like to share with you the message from 20 May 2026 from “The Good Seed” daily calendar.
God does great things, and unsearchable, marvellous things without number. (Job 5:9)
A mythical creature?
The animal lays eggs but has only one common opening for the digestive tract and egg-laying. It is cold-blooded like a reptile, meaning its body temperature is only slightly regulated; it has fur and – like a mammal – mammary glands with which it nurses its young; and it has a bill like a duck, but the surface is as smooth as cowhide. It has a thick beaver-like tail, webbed feet like a duck, and electroreceptors to detect its prey. Additionally, it has a venomous spur on its hind foot, with the venom resembling that of a snake.
No, it isn’t a mythical creature – it’s the platypus. It lives in Australia and prefers still or flowing clean water.
This creature is difficult to allocate to any animal family, and no certain conclusions can be drawn about its supposed “evolutionary ancestry”. It is therefore referred to as a living fossil. Its features seem to be composed as if from a construction kit. Science is puzzled by it. Charles Darwin wrote about this animal in his diary: “A disbeliever in everything beyond his own reason might exclaim, Surely two distinct creators must have been at work.”
No, it was one Creator, the living God, who created this animal. God is free to combine His creativity as He pleases. He made the animals “according to their kind”, as the biblical creation account repeatedly expresses. With David, we might say:
“I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvellous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well” (Psalm 139:14).
Today’s reading: Jeremiah 48:26-47 – Romans 13:1-10
