Dear Father, Once, while on a bike, the rider drove recklessly, and I pleaded with him to slow down. Unfortunately, it felt as though I was the only one listening. However, I realized that his recklessness stirred caution in me, not fear. There is a quiet confidence within me--I scarcely fear, because I am aware of Your presence in my life. This makes me wonder about those who do not know You: how do they live with the uncertainty and surprises life brings? I read a passage which says, “But you will not leave in haste or go in flight; for the Lord will go before you, the God of Israel will be your rear guard.” Your presence in our lives does not only assure us of right direction and perfect timing, it extends into every other area of our lives. I asked myself: how do people make decisions with potentially irreversible consequences and pursue lifelong paths without first having Your mark upon them? What confidence do they even have to live without Your backing? How do they so easily walk through trial and error where mistakes may cost a fortune? Is this truly confidence they show, or, like the bike rider, recklessness? I cannot speak for them, Father, but as for me, if You will not lead the way, I dare not take a step.
