Good morning to everyone. Grace and Peace be with you.
As we are coming to the end of another school year, many young people are facing the anxiety of the magical question, “What’s next?”
For some, there will be college. For some, the military. For some, a part-time job. But for many, they have no idea what they are going to do. For many, it is an abyss of the unknown that has extreme margins that are unattainable. At least, that is how they feel.
I can understand that, for them. When I started my journey to retirement, my thoughts and ideas were all over the place. Yes. No. Yes. Maybe. What if? Can I? Money?????! I have been playing the financial wonders since I was 18 … nearly 40 years. Can you imagine what an 18-year-old is thinking these days? Listening to their parents talk about how difficult it is with both of them working? It has to be terrifying.
On the radio yesterday, the DJ made a great point. A point in which they heard somewhere else. But it really outlined absolute faith. Abram did not have a clue where he was going. God said that he would be the father of all nations … now go that way. No dropped pin for the destination. No map with a red X to mark the spot. No up-sell speech about how he would love it there. He said GO. And you know what? Abram went.
Look at us now. We are the children of Abraham. Did he encounter trials along the way? Yes. I am sure he questioned on several occasions if he was doing what he was supposed to. That would be human nature, and you know that the enemy had his digs in there, too. However, Abram listened. He followed. He obeyed. He displayed faith in the Father of the unknown.
Each of our new journeys portrays an element of the unknown. Graduating high school or college … the unknown is the living up to the expectations of others. Taking promotion … the unknown if I am truly ready for this responsibility. Retirement … will I be bored, or worse, will I not be able to financially survive because of the economy? Maybe your journey isn’t as deep as financial life. Maybe your journey is losing weight … can I walk away from the soda and walk every day? Maybe it is you want to follow Him, but you see how the world treats his followers, and you are unsure … however … you are drawn to His presence. Will you have the strength to stand up to the pressures of the world? Whatever your journey is … He is there. Whatever your unknown is … He is your Light. You can master your new path … when you have the faith of Abram.
You don’t need Google. You only need Him.
Be blessed.
**He also said, “This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. All by itself, the soil produces grain – first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. – Mark 4:26-28
