We hear stories of Christians around the world whose faith is being tested, whose lives are being taken because of what they believe. Families are killed in front of one another — beheaded, massacred, run over by trucks, even babies struck down in front of their mothers. Parents lose their children, mothers lose their sons and daughters, brothers lose their sisters, and sisters lose their brothers. Others who survive carry physical scars from persecution and deep wounds in their hearts from losing loved ones.

Yet they remain steadfast in their faith, because we know that the God we serve is the one true God. This life is not what we are ultimately after. The promise He gave is for all who believe in Him — everlasting life with our God, the life we were meant to have from the beginning. Our God, our home.

When we hear what happens to our brothers and sisters around the world, we are saddened by this but we will not lose faith and hope. And just like them, even though we may not suffer in the same way, our faith is also tested — not just by those who persecute us, but also by the pressures and struggles of life.

Their question becomes ours as well: What are we willing to lose for our faith? Are we willing to die for what we believe? Or will we waver because this life feels too heavy to carry?

Is Jesus worth more to you than anything you might lose in this world?
